Momofuku Milk Bar in Williamsburg turned 2 over the weekend and they were giving away free cookies!

Here is their yuzu cherrysicle softserve. It tasted just like a red Popsicle with yuzu.

My best friend is in Honolulu right now and she sent me a picture of Gyotaku’s nattochos (a portmanteau of “natto” and “nachos”). I immediately went to Family Market in Astoria and bought wonton wraps, tuna, natto (fermented soy beans), yamaimo (wild yam), green onions, radish sprouts, and nori.

We found that our poke mix was a little bland so some yuzu kosho, yuzu chili paste, really helped make the nattochos a success! Please like Chinook Olive’s Facebook page!

Yuji Ramen

I had Yuji’s mazemen at Smorgasburg last September and immediately fell in love with the brothless noodles. Right now chef Yuji Haraguchi has a test kitchen at Whole Foods Market (Bowery) on Houston. The test kitchen is only going to be there for a few months until his restaurant opens in Williamsburg this summer.

The pig ears were really crispy and reminded me of Krunchers barbecue kettle chips.

The chawanmushi (茶碗蒸し) at M. Wells Dinette is an airy egg custard served over foie gras and topped with roasted eel.

The decadent marrow tart with escargots is served with a dark, aromatic gravy sauce that includes wine and herbs. I could have eaten 10 of these, they were so good.

Zenkichi is an intimate izakaya in Williamsburg with a $65 seasonal chef’s tasting menu, omakase. The faint illumination and privacy screens of the romantic booths made it hard to take pictures — but here are some that I took of our favorite courses.

Panya in the East Village sells tomato gummies now! They are so delicious and I am totally addicted. The Sugimotoya Yasashi Tomato treats are imported from Japan and cost $2.25 for 1.4 oz.

The macarons at Panya can be a little dry and are often gummy, but the wasabi macaron I had today was surprisingly palatable. They are $1.50 per piece and should be brought to room temperature before consumption.

Beard Papa’s is selling mouthwatering autumnal pumpkin cream puffs. They are filled with their signature cream custard but are topped with a fragrant pumpkin purée/Belgian white chocolate paste and a few pumpkin seeds. This special treat reminds me of a mont-blanc aux marrons.

Sarah Obraitis told me today that horse on the menu was a “figment” of someone’s imagination and that they served it once, like, “weeks ago”.

We ordered clam chowder (amazing), beef tartare sandwich (SO good and reminded me of a fatty tuna sushi roll), the frisée with lardons (just OK and came with a little green caterpillar in the greens), and the rabbit terrine (also amazing).

M. Wells Dinette was great but I totally miss the old M. Wells and their maple pie… snail and marrow… green salad… soft shell crab BLT…
