Ladurée, macarons, NYC

You won’t find the new saveurs de Noël macaron listed on the menu yet but if you ask nicely enough the staff at Ladurée NYC might be able to find some in the basement!

It is my new favorite macaron! The “Christmas flavors” are chocolate, candied clementine peel, cinnamon, star anise, and vanilla. The person who helped me at Ladurée today said it was “chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and calamansi” but I double checked in the holiday collection guide and it confirmed the first description (no calamansi). This delicious macaron is very rich, much like a brownie.

Here is a shot of two “Christmas flavors” macarons, two chestnut, one blood orange with ginger, and a hazelnut guimauve.

The macarons at Panya can be a little dry and are often gummy, but the wasabi macaron I had today was surprisingly palatable. They are $1.50 per piece and should be brought to room temperature before consumption.

Ladurée, macarons, NYC

I went to Ladurée yesterday for the first time in weeks. I had been so upset about the discontinuation of the muguet (lily of the valley) flavor that I couldn’t bare even to pass by the storefront.

Overwhelmed with curiosity about the new summer flavors, I found myself in line once again trying to decide which of the new boxes I was going to buy for my collection. I chose this one in honor of the “Queen’s Diamond Jubilee”.

New flavors include basil & lime, strawberry & poppy (not poppyseed, but poppy petals), and the latest “incroyable” strawberry, with a guimauve (marshmallow) filling and a bit of sugar sprinkled on top.

I just picked up my order of macarons from Dana’s Bakery! They look even better than on the website!

The Fruity Pebbles macaron was calling my name and I tried it even though it was still a bit cold from the fridge at Corrado Bakery where I picked it up.

It was amazing!!! It tastes like a bowl of Fruity Pebbles cereal and had a unique texture because it seems like there are actual bits of cereal in the shell. I loved it and can’t wait to try the other ones!

Dana’s Bakery, based in New Jersey, is having a 20% off sale for new customers and I am picking up my first order tomorrow. It was so hard to choose from the twelve flavors currently available! I’m really looking forward to this Fruity Pebbles one! I’ll let you know what they’re like tomorrow after I pick them up.

I was in Long Island City yesterday and stopped at Little Oven Bakery. They were kind of wiped out from a weekend’s worth of weddings but I was told that they’d have a clementine & pink pepper macaron available this week. I love pink peppercorns. I just hope that they don’t use chocolate filling like the do with the passion fruit one.
