Next time you’re in Manila get the green mango ice cream served with warm bagoong (shrimp paste) at Sebastian’s. It’s amazing.

Mutant coconut (or macapuno) is a rare, naturally occurring coconut that looks like any other except that its flesh is thick and gelatinous. Because it’s so rare, it’s usually pretty expensive. It is also known as coconut sport.

The J. Marquette “opening soon” sign in the window at 12-07 Jackson Ave has recently been replaced by this sign for The Chocolate Swirl. What happened to Sage General Store’s plans for a new “American” macaron shop?

M. Wells was selling oysters and clams last night at see.me and Rockrose’s “The Story of the Creative” exhibit at the Socrates Sculpture Park satellite near the Linc LIC at 43-10 Crescent Street in Queens. I noticed that M. Wells Steakhouse has some new furniture on the side patio (which is adjacent to the sculpture park).

M. Wells Steakhouse is expected to open next month in a former car repair shop in Long Island City. Here is a photo via NYT’s Julie Glassberg of a bone-in burger that might be on the menu.

Paris Baguette’s Brie cheesecake

Paris Baguette in Ktown is selling a very special Brie cheesecake. They’ve managed to use sugar and frosting to make the cake resemble a little round of Brie cheese. I actually thought it was covered in a layer of white rind before I cut into it. The creamy Brie filling inside is savory (maybe even a bit salty). I loved it!

Some of my absolute favorite artisan cheeses are made by Cowgirl Creamery in Pt. Reyes, California. You can find these excellent cheeses in New York City at almost every Whole Foods location.

A few weeks ago I entered a contest on the creamery’s Facebook page to win some of their cheeses! I had to submit a video of myself singing a song about cheese to the tune of Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics.

It goes like this: “Sweet dreams are made of cheese, who am I to diss a Brie? I cheddar the world and the feta cheese, everybody’s looking for Stilton.”

Here is my video:

Screen Shot 2013-06-30 at 11.41.11 AMI guess people on Facebook liked the video because I just found out that I won the contest! I am so excited to try the cheeses that they’re going to send! I will post pictures of the package when it arrives!
