I finally got to try Keizo Shimamoto’s ramen burger on Saturday at Smorgasburg! My friends and I got there at about 10:00AM and then got the burger at about 11:30AM. There were about 60 people ahead of us in line.

While we were waiting, a group of Japanese reporters interviewed Lisa. She jokingly said she drove all the way from Utah just to try the ramen burger. I hope I can find her interview online.

You can only buy one ramen burger per person and each person must be present. I was number 67.

The hamburger wrappers are really unique. They have pleats and kind of reminded me of a shower cap from a hotel.

The grill wasn’t level so here are some of the staff members trying to fix it. I’m pretty sure they reserve the fatty drippings from the hamburgers to make the brown sauce that goes on top of the burger (along with scallions). Notice the long, long line in the background.

Beet ice cream with goat cheese and candied pistachios

OddFellows Ice Cream Co. in Williamsburg has some very special new flavors, including celery and beet with goat cheese and candied pistachios. I stopped by yesterday to try them both. The celery sorbet was too sweet for me but the beet ice cream was fantastic! Check their Facebook page for daily flavors.

Here is a first look at the new M. Wells Steak House in LIC! Is that the cement trout trough there on the left?

There is a rumor going around that Hugue Dufour and Sarah Obraitis from M. Wells Dinette are planning on opening their new steak house this summer in Long Island City. I am very skeptical because… well, remember what happened last time?!

The LIC Post has reported that there will be a 24 square foot concrete trough for holding live trout.

This is the purported location of the new steak house: 43-15 Crescent Street in Queens. It’s an old auto body repair shop.

I’m going to check out the location this week to see if I can see anything inside the building!

foie gras beignets at Deji

Deji at Smorgasburg was serving little beignets filled with foie gras mousse and topped with powdered Nutella and bokbunjaju (복분자주 or mountain berry) sauce at Smorgasburg on Saturday. They were really delicious. Be careful though! There is so much foie gras inside that it explodes a little when you bite into them!

The staff at Yuji recently returned from Japan and are now serving this brothless mazemen with chilled crab and a refreshing cucumber gelée.

I had Yuji’s mazemen at Smorgasburg last September and immediately fell in love with the brothless noodles. Right now chef Yuji Haraguchi has a test kitchen at Whole Foods Market (Bowery) on Houston. The test kitchen is only going to be there for a few months until his restaurant opens in Williamsburg this summer.

I am at the first ever Hot Sauce Expo at the East River State Park in Williamsburg and Dana’s is here with a ghost pepper macaron! I actually met Dana and she was so sweet!! She gave me one of her limited edition jelly donut macarons when I told her I was a big fan! 🙂 I was totally starstruck when I met her.

Macaron Parlour on Saint Marks has a Cheetos macaron. They sprinkle each one with cheesy orange dust.

They also make a candied bacon macaron that has a real strip of bacon inside.
