Broadway, Grand Opening, Ladurée, new york, soho

Ladurée Soho (398 W Broadway) had its soft opening this weekend and will be open to the public on Wednesday, February 5, 2014. It will feature a full-service restaurant and an outdoor patio. Though currently unavailable, reservations can be made at OpenTable here. This new flagship location has started making pastries and viennoiseries previously impossible to find anywhere in North America. Scroll down to see the Saint-Honoré rose and the pistachio religieuse that I bought yesterday. Screen Shot 2014-02-02 at 7.47.49 AM

I love the new macaron box – according to an employee at Ladurée, it features a “very French” joke about the post-Christmas sales season. “0% OFF SALE!” I thought it was surprisingly cheeky for such a traditional fabricant de douceurs

Ladurée, macarons, NYC

You won’t find the new saveurs de Noël macaron listed on the menu yet but if you ask nicely enough the staff at Ladurée NYC might be able to find some in the basement!

It is my new favorite macaron! The “Christmas flavors” are chocolate, candied clementine peel, cinnamon, star anise, and vanilla. The person who helped me at Ladurée today said it was “chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and calamansi” but I double checked in the holiday collection guide and it confirmed the first description (no calamansi). This delicious macaron is very rich, much like a brownie.

Here is a shot of two “Christmas flavors” macarons, two chestnut, one blood orange with ginger, and a hazelnut guimauve.

I just finished a batch of orange blossom marshmallows. They were so easy to make. I just used a smitten kitten recipe.

The worst part was waiting for the sugar mixture to get to 240 degrees.

I am going to make another batch this afternoon of plain vanilla ones, just have to get some vanilla beans first.

I am so excited about all the cookie cutter shapes I’m going to use to make cute marshmallows cut outs!

I used to think Ladurée’s guimauve macaron filling was gross but now that I know what goes into making a marshmallow, I kind of love the idea of the incroyable macarons!

Ladurée, macarons, NYC

20120711-160606.jpg
I went to Ladurée yesterday for the first time in weeks. I had been so upset about the discontinuation of the muguet (lily of the valley) flavor that I couldn’t bare even to pass by the storefront.

Overwhelmed with curiosity about the new summer flavors, I found myself in line once again trying to decide which of the new boxes I was going to buy for my collection. I chose this one in honor of the “Queen’s Diamond Jubilee”.

New flavors include basil & lime, strawberry & poppy (not poppyseed, but poppy petals), and the latest “incroyable” strawberry, with a guimauve (marshmallow) filling and a bit of sugar sprinkled on top.
